About Us

My Philosophy

At our first meeting, I always ask my clients what it is they love about their dog and what issues bother them about their dog. So many times their response is that they have become frustrated with their training. I’ve learned over the years the importance of having a clear training vision in place right from the get-go. So, whether you’re looking for a bit of help, you’re starting off with a new puppy or rescue dog, my goal is to get you the right help, right now, with a new training perspective.

My signature style is a force-free scientifically based training. Wholistic, relationship based, and user friendly methods to help complete a comprehensive plan. Your leadership role with your dog has a major effect on more effective learning with your dog and can be a truly life changing experience. This is why I feel so passionate about dog training. I love creating personalized plans that address each of my clients unique needs. That moment when a client sees my work with their dog and something happens inside them that makes them understand the difference proper training makes for successful learning.

My Story

My journey into animal husbandry and science started years ago, growing up on a farm in Minnesota. I spent many years competing on international, national, regional and state levels with equines and cattle. Some of my awards were Reserve World Champion Palomino, Chicago International Livestock Exposition cattle division, and a National Regional FFA Horse Proficiency Award.

After graduating with a associate degree in accounting I began working specifically in the field of dog training. I moved to Brevard, North Carolina in 2001 and I starting working along side a IAABC Certified Dog Behavior Consultant. This furthered my education of behavioral assessment and added another dimension to my training. I dove right in and never looked back. Dog training and behavioral assessment has been my passion ever since.

In 2002 I founded Now and Zen Dog Training and become a certified professional dog trainer- knowledge assessed https://www.ccpdt.org/certification/, as I continue to follow my calling. I would be honored to help you and your dog with any needs you might have.

I spend my weekends hiking and relaxing with my husband and two boxers.
