How to Pick the Right Dog Trainer

Dog training is an unregulated industry. In most states in the U.S. anyone may call them selves a dog trainer. As a dog owner it is up to you to find the right trainer to help you and your dog. So what should you look for? Here are some essential dog trainer requirements:

1. Knowlege. Trained and certified in ethology and animal behavior thru a major accredited association. This means they use the humane hierarchy for their training protocols.

2. Transparency. The trainer should be able to fully disclose exactly what will be happening to your dog during the training process. If your dog is going to a board and train you should be able to see the facility prior to signing up. Demand to know the specific methods they will be using and in what situations.

3. Veterinarian Referral. A minimum of 2 different veterinarian recommendations for the trainer that you have sought out independently of any recommended by the trainer.

Please don’t settle for smoke and mirrors. It could put your dog at risk.
